Alejandro and Christian Trevino, 18, are in Hidalgo County Jail for beating their stepfather to death after he sexually abused their sister. Their family friend Juan Eduardo Melendez, 18, is also accused of the same, reports KSAT.
They beat their stepfather, Gabriel Quintanilla, 42, for sexually abusing their 9-year-old sister. Both brothers, Alexandro and Christian are half-siblings to their sister and have different moms.
He was discovered dead in a field in McAllen by a farmer on 20th January. Quintanilla was discovered with extensive blunt force damage to his skull. Police suspected he was attacked prior to his death near Pharr, Texas, per a Valley Central report. At the time of his death, the stepfather was wanted for ongoing sexual abuse of a kid and assault family violence.
According to police, a youngster complained about Quintanilla sexually touching her at an RV park in the 1200 block of E. Moore. Pharr Police Department issued a news release saying, “When brothers Alexandro and Christian Trevino found out, they became enraged and confronted Gabriel Quintanilla at the residence. A physical fight ensued between the three and the victim Quintanilla left the location on foot.” According to police, Christian pursued Quintanilla to an apartment complex down the road, where a second attack took place involving Alexandro and the driver of a red Dodge Charger, Juan Eduardo Melendez, reports KGRV.
According to Pharr police, the three suspects then left the scene, switched vehicles, and returned, where they discovered Quintanilla wandering alone and wounded. He was physically assaulted the third time with brass knuckles and suffered severe trauma on his head and skull. Quintanilla was then loaded into the truck bed and dumped in a field outside McAllen. The authorities believe that he might have been alive when he was left in the field.
Melendez is accused of engaging in organized criminal activity, homicide, aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, and marijuana possession, according to Hidalgo County records. Christian is accused of aggravated assault, murder, and engaging in organized criminal activity, while Alejandro is charged with aggravated assault and engaging in organized criminal conduct, per MYRGV. According to Deputy Chief Juan Gonzalez, Alejandro is not charged with capital murder because his brother and Melendez are suspected of delivering the deadly blows.
All three teenagers were arraigned on Sunday. While Christian and Melendez faced the court, Alexandro kept his head down for the remainder of the arraignment. Alexandro is being detained on a $1 million bail, while Christian is being held on a $1.5 million bond. Melendez is being detained on a bail of $1,502,000 million.
